Hi John, I know what you mean, the ridges look like a “crush” region. When I did the rear bearings on the 64 Newport and 64 K, what was on the axle flange were a few of this type of “shim” making up a shim pack, along with foam gaskets (pictured below). I used these shims to set end play, and replaced the foam gaskets. Two data points only, I don’t know how correct they are, but basically matched what was there… I also learned it’s a good idea to “feel” the end play before you start (I don’t have runout gauges), and also note the original position of the races WRT the plane of the axle flange (how far the races protrude).
