RE: {Chrysler 300} axle shims

I had had him make me some shims about 10 years ago for my 1947 Desoto large wheelbase car and what was interesting is they are VERY close to the 300K.

If people wanted him to make a run, any thoughts on the shim thicknesses? I would have to dig into the parts books and see what the factory offered.

One thing to note. Replacement bearing races although supposedly the same as factory…I noted the depth can be a couple of thousands different than the ones that came out. That is why one cannot just “use what was in there” if changing a bearing on a axle. The other issue is how tight was the old bearing pressed onto the axle shaft and the flange stop. If it is in a little different place, then the endplay will be different.

The one thing I noted was that the holes came out a little tight. If we have some made, I will ask him to open the holes up a bit so they slip over the bolts better.

James.

Hi James/Bob,

I know John Begian had some made, but he only had one left. James, I'm definitely interested in having some made. If you don't want to play middle-man with your machinist, please pass me his contact info. Depending on cost, perhaps we can have some extras made up for future projects👍

Bob,

I had some made. I used them. My machinist still has the program in his jet cutter files, I think.  I posted the other days asking if anyone was interested and I would inquire about making a run of various sizes. No replies.

James

Dim memory says someone in the club had the

57-64 style rear axle shims made.

I wonder if they are still available.
