Neil, Yes, the following Poly build-up will get you in the 300HP neighborhood. Basic long-block rebuild with the attendant HP parts:Wind Tunnel 4bbl, OEM four barrel Poly intake (dual plane) is preferred, P600 three deuce (expensive proposition with multi-carbs), OEM Poly dual quad will work but extra cash for "two" carbs, Weiand 7503 is last; a properly modified OEM Poly 2bbl. should get you there as well - I have pics of required modifications and addition of a Holley 500cfm 2bbl...this is good "cheap" way to do it w/o getting hammered with exorbitant Poly manifold pricing. 600cfm Edelbrock AFB - nothing fancy or large is needed here. A 500cfm will work as well but the Poly can use a bit more for "driving" versatility. 9.5 compression - use 1.812 Comp. Ht. stock piston set and mill heads approx. .030" 264/.450" ([email protected]") 110LC HP Solid Cam/spring/retainer pkg. or Hyd. counterpart in a 262/.460" ([email protected]") 110LC HP Hydraulic Poly CamA smaller 258/.462" ([email protected]") 110LC Solid or a 256/.440" ([email protected]") 110LC w/attendant parts will net you about 280HP @ 5000rpm and 350ft.lbs. torque @ 3800rpm Double Roller Chain/gear set .250" seamlessStock 1.84/1.56" Poly Valves are fine as well as stock heads - cleaning up the chambers and match & blend the ports will help but is not necessary unless you can do it yourself and know what you are doing - otherwise you can do harm so best leave them "unported." Unleaded exh. seats are mandatory - basic rebuild work that doesn't make HP but yields longevity... Stock Oil pump & pan is fineStock OEM log exhaust is fine here - header options are too expensive and we are only looking for 300HP...I have done it for builds w/OEM exh. Electronic Ignition pkg. - basic2 1/2" exh. through Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers and H or X pipe should you get this far... Rear gear ratio change from the 2.94 or 2.76 will not "make" HP but will "make-up" for pkgs. that lack torque and will provide greater throttle response. A mild 2500 rpm Hi-stall convertor is nice but again this is last on the list and not necessary for our 300HP build...just adding some extra information should someone need to "go through" their trans for repairs; might as well "upgrade" the convertor instead of the stock stall. Let me know if I can help answer further questions, parts sourcing, or tailor a Poly build sheet for your/anyone's particular needs. A 318? Fuggedaboutit! Neil Vedder (BTW...and I know that you've already done this before, elsewhere) can you post up the building specs on/for an about 300HP engine, having a very-streetable 9.00-9.50 compression ratio and vintage-looking carb(s); deuces/Carters???? Polyheads and Mopar faithful, I have a Poly engine milestone and apex achievement to pass along to you and all our Mopar faithful on the 62-65 Mail List, 318 Poly Mail List, et al... My friend Barrett Lash dyno’d his engine Friday, just break-in numbers and not tuned yet, with great success. This has been an ongoing project that I have alluded to in the past and finally has come to fruition. 369 cid Poly Stroker 3.79 Stroker Crankshaft Hogan’s Tunnel Ram intake1.7 to 1 rod stroke ratio - he believes that proper rod/stroke ratio buildsthe most HP - undoubtedly! 2.02/1.60” valves T&D Roller Rockers 507HP @ 6000rpm/459 ft.lbs. torque @ 4900rpm Avg. HP & Torque from 3600-6300rpm is 420HP & 446 TorqueVery impressive and the first documented Poly engine to make over 500HP andKILLER Torque. Additionally, the motor was dyno'd at A.C. Nutter RacingEngines in Vancouver, WA and their dyno is infamously noted to record about30HP less than other dynos! I am looking forward to the next dyno session and will video the pulls and update our Mopar Community when it happens.
