Lots of gas flowing at high idle. Well, I am not any sort of car mechanic, but perhaps the water affected the float mechanism, causing it to stick, and the fuel pump keeps pumping it in under pressure...??? Too rich a mixture leads to carbon buildup. Water in the gas turns the exhaust "white" with steam, I have heard.
