[FWDLK] Red Belvedere

At the risk of looking dumb, I'm gonna add my thoughts about the demise of
Plymouth. I'm very disappointed that there even seem to be some people on
this List who are glad Plymouth will be gone. . . I'm not going to debate
with them, but I'm surprised their attitude is what most of the rest of the
worlds is: who cares? I figured this List would provide the only bastion
of support where grown men and women can fret about something that certainly
won't mean the end of the world.

I'm bummed about Plymouth's downfall. When I have a bad car day (as opposed
to some people's bad hair day), I fall back on something that makes me feel
better. If you were in school during the 70s or 80s you'll probably
recognize Rush:

My uncle has a country place, that no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm, before the Motor Law.
And on Sundays I elude the eyes and hop the Turbine freight
To far outside the wire where my white-haired uncle waits

Jump to the ground as the Turbo slows across the borderline
Run like the wind as excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn, my uncle preserved for me an old machine, for 50-odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream

I strip away the old debris, and find a shining car
A brilliant Red Belvedere from better, banished times
We fire up the willing engine, responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel like amid my meeting's crime

Here, in my head. . . . . shifting and drifting. . . . .mechanical music. .
.. . adrenaline surge!

No one had ever heard or seen it before, the scented country air
Sunlight on chrome, the view of the landscape, every new where

Suddenly, ahead of me across the mountainside
A gleaming Hell machine shoots towards me two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires, we run a deadly race
Go screaming through the valley as another joins the chase

Run like the wind, straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope, I've got a desperate plan
At the one lane bridge, I leave the Giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm, to dream with my uncle, at the fire side.
