Not to get off the subject of FL cars, but I own a 73 VW Transporter.  The
FI came out in them in 1974 and was fairly dependable for that time frame.
Parts for that system are getting scarce and fairly expensive.  So much so
that most people are having to revert back to carbs when the FI "brain" goes
dead.  Might be worth a look to see if the two systems have any
interchangeable parts.  If you want to look, check out www.type2.com I
imagine that someone there would have the definite answer to the interchange
question.
