Interesting. I am old enough to remember buying my first set of tires for my '56 Imperial years ago. The size that it called for in the owners manual was 8.20 X 15. There had been a change in the calculation of tire sizes in the mid-'60s. The size that I bought was 9.15 X 15. The sizes may have changed again after that because I am thinking that there were some I bought after that which were 9.50 X 15. I later remember buying several (at least three) sets of L-78 X 15 tires for it because the size designations were changed once again in the early '70s. Those were the years that I put the most miles on that car. I routinely got about 20,000 miles out of each set of Bias Ply tires. The last tires I bought for it were a set of "reproduction" Allstate Silvertowns, at least I think that is what they are called. The size on them is once again 8.20 X 15. This is because they are a reproduction of the original size tire that was available back in the '50s. The first Vogue Tires that I ever saw were optional on the 1964 Lincoln. They were quite popular on those cars when they were new in Southern California.
