I crashed my 1965 Imperial!

That's right folks, I crashed it. About three years ago. Totally my fault, I
was driving to work one morning, late, of course, not paying attention, going
too fast. I know, I was stupid . But let's face it, we get a little complacent
in our driving, especially here in California, we drive way too much. Anyway,
I wasn't paying attention until I saw a 2000ish Honda Accord about a hundred
feet in front of me. I don't need to tell you how my four wheel drum brakes
performed. But I will. I destroyed this guy's car! Ironically enough he then
hit a tow truck in front of him. It was the single worst driving experience
that ever befell me. Though, oddly enough, I got out of the car mad at him!
That's right. I knew it was my fault, but I couldn't help being angry with him
for being stopped and allowing my beautiful car to slam into him. Stupid, I
know. The only thing that made me laugh was this entertainment yuppie on his
way to his next "reality show" gig, get out of his car with a whole cup of $8
dollar coffee all over him. I must admit, it made me laugh.
But I digress. My 1965 Imperial Le Baron suffered only cosmetic damage. The
passenger side fender buckled, the grill pushed in, the bumper omly slightly
damaged. Thankfully, the tempered glass headlight covers were untouched.
That's it! My yuppie friend was not so fortunate. Both front and rear of his
plastic wonder car were destroyed. He was OK. Indeed, even the tow truck
company tried to get a claim, citing damage to the towing equipment. Whatever.
I made my insurance company deal with it, and since the only thing I own of any
worth was the very thing that danmaged them, that was the end of it.
It should also be noted that I was not wearin my seatbelt. Well lapbelt, as it
is not illegal in such an old car. I was unhurt, except of course, for the
emotional pain of watching my baby suffer. I can't gauge how different the
accident would have been if I had been driving a cookie cutter new car, I just
know what happened to my baby. I do feel like I'm driving a tank around LA
sometimes, and that makes me feel safe.
It has taken me all this time and thousands of dollars to get her back to teh
beauty she once was., indeed she is even more beautiful now what with the new
interior and all. (I"m very proud of my car, picture me sticking my chest out.)
Moral:
Be careful, don't rush, but if you do ruin someone's car, hope it is some one
that deserves it. (That's a joke.) {Sorta}
Thanx.
John
