Dave, As applied to drag race cars, technically, you would pick a converter to complement the power range of an engine. The stall speed would need to be close to the torque peak of the engine for maximum acceleration off the line. You would pick your rear end ratio to go through the lights at on or just over the engine speed at which maximum horsepower is produced. This should be the quickest way down the strip but a bit of a pain on the road. To answer your main question though, any standard factory converter should work with your 3:54 gears, so yes, you should be able to get away with it. Adam
