I don't want to break your heart, but I found it very difficult to reattatch the tranny to the engine when I had my engine and tranny out of the car. I put my engine on my workbench (big workbench!) and used the engine hoist to put the tranny on the engine. It took me and a buddy seven or eight tries, and we didn't have to work around the car. For my money, it is easier to pull the tranny with the motor and reinstall them together. It sounds like more work, but it isn't. Besides, then you can clean the tranny, change the fluid to synthetic, add a new gasket, and be sure the bands are adjusted correctly!
