Shawn: You are correct, the heater core is housed in and held by the the large fiberglass housing. It is easiest to remove the blower motor when removing the housing becuase there is a bolt in the lower left corner that is a bear to remove with the blower motor installed (at least on the V8 cars). There are 4 (or 6, can not remember) small bolts holding the core in the housing.
