In regards to your posted question about the old drum brakes. I have long been an advocate of an improved brake system on the old forward look Mopars. I drove my car for many years with the old drums, and single line master cylinder. To tell you the truth, I was very reluctant to change over to discs/dual master cylinder. However, I did it for the simple reason of safety. There is no question that the old drums will be, for the most part, reliable in their stopping ability. However, there is a lot room for doubt. I have met more people that had trouble with them, than had success in tweaking them to work the way you wnat them to. Personally, I have run the gammet in trying to remedy the common problems with these brakes. i.e. silicone brake fluid, new wheel cylinders, weekly/monthly adjustments, yearly rebuilds etc, etc... They constantly need service in one way or another. If you are like that gentleman that says he drives his car 2000+ miles a week, than perhaps you will have better luck. I think that the more you use your old drum brakes, the less problems you will inevitably have (common sense). But, if you are like most of us, and use your ride for occasional use, than plan on servicing your brakes often. Not only for better performance, but for the safety aspect of it. You can never be too safe when it comes your brakes.
