Its not that you don't need one on headers, you are just choosing to do with out. The purpose of the heat riser is to retain exhaust heat to warm the intake so as to improve driveability during warm up. They only use one on V-8's to redirect the exhaust flow through the passage in the intake that runs under the carb area
