Welcome aboard, John. :-) Some flathead sixes used the sealed disposable filters, others used the more common canister and replaceable element type. The '57 Plymouth engine in my '59 has the latter, as did the previous engine. You should be able to replace your sealed unit with the more common canister type. Look for them in salvage yards, though new old stock units appear from time to time. Keep in mind factory oil filtration system on these engines is of the bypass type. Not all the oil passes through the filter. Some is diverted to the filter, the rest circulates freely from the pan to the engine. Some of these engines even left the factory without an oil filter!
