Brian-What exactly are you refering to as an 'X' exahust system? If you are meaning the 'H' crossover originally used by some early 60's Ramchargers to tie the two exhaust headpipes together which has in recent times transformed to the 'X' configuration I can refer you to recent articles in some car magazines discussing it and comparing the 'H' and 'X' configurations and both to non-crossover exhausts. Most agree it helps low-end torque and mellows the exhaust sound. If this is not what you are talking about, ignore this.
