Dick, I was only joking when I suggested writing your congressional representative about reviving automotive fins. Nonetheless, your commentary and extensive research are notably well-versed. I was simply posing the question, "Wouldn't it be nice if we could get fins back on the cars of today." Furthermore, I continue to support my argument that automotive consumers are captivated by retro-styled creations. Again, I use the example of the Prowler, PT Cruiser, T-Bird, and New Beetle as proof of my theory. Just look at the styling cues of the T-Bird, for instance... There are so many details that are reminiscent of the fins-and-chrome era. I can see the cars of today are already slipping back in time, stylistically... That is why I am cautiously optimistic that fins will return sometime in the not-too-distant future. I suggest "stabilizers" made from fiberglass only because most cars aren't made from the real deal steel anymore. Thus, before you completely disembowel my theory... please take a moment to share in the pleasant thought of modern fins adorning the cars of tomorrow. Granted, it's only a far-fetched concept... but if you suspend your skepticism, the essence of the idea is pretty neat. That said, I'd also rather have an authentic Winged Wonder than a modern wannabe... However, if a modern finned machine were available, I'd definitely consider it over any other "cookie cutter" modern automobile as a daily driver.
