I recently bought a 61 newport sedan, and while driving it home I notice the steering was dangerously sloppy. It would shoot off the road, etc. When I got it home, I noticed the ends on the main drag link were shot. They were swiveling around almost like tie rod ends! I pulled the link out, and it looks like someone has smashed the ends with a hammer to try and eliminate some of the slop.
My question: The ends in this link don't appear to be "replaceable". The metal from the drag link looks like it is crimped over the ends. I got one side out for educational purposes.. and I was wondering if it is possible to retrofit any sort of replaceable end to this link. Or does a new link with ends installed need to be purchased?
Thanks,
Dan
