1957-61 318 V8's use a different crankshaft flange than 1962-66 318 V8's. The 57-61 flange is 3/4" longer and has an eight bolt pattern. The 62-66 flange has a 6-bolt pattern. The bellhousing bolt pattern is the same, but the flange difference prevents the 62-66 engine from bolting to the 57-61 transmission, and vice versa. You should use a transmission matching the engine (57-61 engine with 57-61 trans./62-66 engine with 62-66 trans.) so your best bet is to use the 1963 engine and transmission as a pair.
