Love your ideas! I'd love to see some pics of your car in progress/when finished... do you have a website?

I've been thinking about a similar project for the future... getting a late '50s, early '60s Mopar and restifying it to appear stock but include some safety and performance mods to make it more practical to drive in today's traffic with the many nutbars that are on the roads today.

My idea for shoulder belts would be to get some from a '68 (I think that was the first year) to early '70s Mopar that attach to the roof just above the rear quarter window but are separate from the lap belt. This way you could have them on both the driver's and passenger's sides (I'm sure your wife/girlfriend has no desire to taste the dash), and they fold up out of the way when not in use. So if you have no passenger, the belt folds out of the way and doesn't dangle around and rattle against the pillar, etc. Also, if you ever plan to show the car, you can fold them up out of sight to keep a somewhat original appearance (nobody ever looks up at the headliner when checking out an interior, do they?). They should not be too hard to find... all Mopars had them from that period (at least '68 to '73), and you should be able to find one in the junk yard somewhere (make sure you get the brackets, etc, to mount them).

My '71 New Yorker has them, so if you are not sure what I'm talking about, I could e-mail you some pics.

Also, I assume since you are upgrading your brakes, you plan to go with a dual master cylinder... has anybody out there done this conversion? Is it an easy bolt-on operation, or are there some modifications to be made?

Good luck with the project!

Mark
