Thanks, Don and all,That sure clarifies things for me. I’m going to go ahead and have that GM put in my original generator.Send the other out to be rebuilt and then put it back onto the original generator. Sound reasonable guys?Thank you.On Thursday, January 16, 2025 at 8:56:45 AM UTC-5 jkg wrote:Hi — Just get another used generator in good shape , not rusty ? commutator does not “go “ but i know if generator is badly overheated it can toss solder that holds the winding wires to it . Such an armature is junk . changing a commutator or rewind is a huge job not really practical in 2025 . And not as good as a stock one just needing cleaning upIf blackened due to driving after end of brush life or stuck brushes ( sparking etc ) that can be cleaned up . I honestly think if you were told “it needs a commutator” go someplace else .All mopar 30- 35 A generators are essentially the same electrical parts despite obsession with part numbers . The variations involve clocking of end plates and variations in mounting flanges ( you can use F ends / mount parts ) and pulleys ( 1 or 2 groove) A dodge or plymouth can donate — sometimes you do see replacement 12 v armatures on ebay. 57-61 12 vWhat does go are the brushes , easy to change wear item , ~ 80 k miles, low cost , and sometimes bearings in the end plates . Brush springs can rust or brushes can stick in slides . That blackens commutator , can be polished . No need to undercut just clean out slots between bars with box cutter ( dont slip snd scratch it)If AC , it gets harder , more powerful generator 35-40 A are rare .At one time i routinely put alternator in F , but now such a special valuable car , keep stock ? Generators worked fine , for 70 k still do !Genernator are big ( huge!) bucks , weird one off things — no parts if it punts . Great for Ford model A going to 12 v etc.Any non stock thing ( alternator ) involves harness changes will look non stock on firewall toojust mhoOn Jan 15, 2025, at 7:57 PM, dplo...@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote:Frank and Michael: This is the fella that has what you want.

That is an alternator built into a case resembling a generator. Powermaster has one of these too. Google them up.You can install a Chrysler round back alternator too. The club site shows you how. If I was not going to fix and put the generator back, I'd install a round back. The 1960 AMA specification lists one as optional, so its kosher. Mucho better with AC.Danny PlotkinSent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphoneMy 19 6300 F needs a commentator apparently the voltage regulator fried It. Anybody have any info on this? it would look original but better power? A/Ccar. It’s in the shop now with a temporary GM commutator being put in it pending sending my original out for rebuild. Any reindeer:rebuilders out there? I would appreciate some help. My terra-cotta prize is sitting and I do love him so .--
