I made an adapter for my 300K to mount two 4 inch speakers in the dash. There is tons of room in there. I had to put spacers between the adapter and the factory mount so the speakers didn't hit the speaker grille. Will put speaker fabric on so you can't see them. 

I want to get one of those dual voice coil speakers to compare the sound.

I just measured the front speaker, and the holes are 6.44 on the long holes and 4.69 on the short holes.  The depth is not an issue as the factory unit is 3.25 deep while some of the replacements are 2.32.

 

The Retro Sound R-69UK dual voice coil speakers are 6.44 by 4.69. I hope that the shape fills the big hole somewhat correctly so I do not have to make up some adaptor plates. I will not cut the rear deck…

 

I guess I will have to make up some small flat steel plates and rivet to the speaker so the little plate holes will line up with the factory plate on the front and the stamped holes in the rear deck webbing.
